SEATTLE, WA—On April 1, The Seattle Aquarium and Braided River are partnering to launch an awe-inspiring, curated photo exhibit called The Salmon Way: An Alaska State of Mind at the Seattle Aquarium. The exhibit, based on the book of the same name (Braided River, 2019),  features captivating photography and stories celebrating the ways of life in Alaska that wild Pacific salmon make possible. It will be at the Aquarium through August 2022.

Seattle, WA—Introducing Chiidax (pronounced CHEE-dak), a male northern fur seal who arrived from Boston’s New England Aquarium on March 22. He travelled cross country with a veterinarian and his primary trainer on a FedEx flight. Chiidax, nicknamed Chi (CHEE), has come to Seattle to be a companion to our resident fur seal, Flaherty. The two will be in separate habitats for a couple of weeks while Chi adjusts to his new home. 

Seattle, WA—The Seattle Aquarium welcomed Casey, a harbor seal, on February 8, 2022. Casey is a male harbor seal who was born at Seaside Aquarium in Oregon in May of 2014. He has moved to the Seattle Aquarium to be a companion for the Aquarium’s other two harbor seals, Barney and Hogan. 

Seattle, WA—The Seattle Aquarium is proud to announce a three-part video series, Stories from the Salish Sea, developed with generous financial support from the James M. Lea Foundation and in partnership with a local visual storytelling company, Soulcraft Allstars. 

Seattle, WA—The Seattle Aquarium welcomed back Sekiu (pronounced: see-queue), a northern sea otter, on December 14, 2021. Sekiu was born at the Seattle Aquarium on January 14, 2012 and has spent the last four years at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, where she was a companion for the zoo’s southern sea otter, Libby, residing in their Rocky Shores habitat. The two were later joined by Moea, another female southern sea otter.

SEATTLE, WA—Now through spring, an awe-inspiring, curated exhibit, Orca: Shared Waters, Shared Home, will be on display at the Seattle Aquarium.

Seattle Aquarium divers carving pumpkins—underwater! Watch as they wield their tools and fend off curious fish to filet pumpkins into squash masterpieces. Visitors will be able to view various floating fish-o’-lanterns in the Window on Washington Waters habitat through Halloween.

Today is World Habitat Day, and the Seattle Aquarium and Woodland Park Zoo have teamed up to celebrate our commitment to the species and spaces of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. 

The Seattle Aquarium recently announced the appointment of Kat Willson as the new director of marketing and communications. She began work in this role in September 15.
